Injured Barcelona star to travel with team to Saudi Arabia: report

Barcelona midfielder Mar Bernal, who is out due to a serious injury, will be part of the team’s traveling squad for the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.

This is reported by SPORT, a report that highlights that despite being injured since the end of August, Bernal will join the Barcelona contingent for the event, marking a significant moment in his recovery path.

In addition to Bernal, Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor are expected to travel with the team, although the federation situations of both players are still pending.

Barcelona is optimistic about solving these problems through the CSD, which would allow Olmo and Víctor to participate in the match against Athletic Club on Wednesday.

Recovery on the way

Bernal, who underwent surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and an associated meniscus injury, is not expected to return to the court until August or September 2025.

However, despite the long recovery timeline, Bernal’s progress has been notable. At this point, four months after the operation, he is recovering faster than initially expected.

The latest medical checks have confirmed that Bernal is progressing well, with his knee stronger and more flexible than that of other players in similar recovery phases, such as Gavi.

Why do you travel?

The coaching staff believes bringing Bernal on the trip will help free him from the individual recovery routine, which can be mentally challenging.

By traveling with the team, Bernal will have the opportunity to interact with his teammates and participate in some activities.

He will also continue his rehabilitation work at the Barcelona facilities in Saudi Arabia, where he will join the rest of the squad for certain gym sessions.

In addition to Bernal, other injured players such as Ferran Torres, Andreas Christensen and Héctor Fort will also be part of the traveling squad.

However, goalkeeper Ter Stegen will not travel to the Middle East due to his injury.
