Barcelona’s dream run in 2025 came to an abrupt end when they drew 1-1 against Getafe last night.
It was another disappointing outing for Barca in La Liga, and the Catalans have now extended their woeful tally to just one win in their last eight games.
Speaking to the media after the match, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was not very happy with the result, but said that he is not too worried about the situation at the moment.
What Flick said after the game
Analyzing Barcelona’s performance, Flick admitted that the team should have been more effective against a defensive team like Getafe.
“I counted some of the opportunities we had and normally with those opportunities we can score one or two more goals, but we didn’t, so we have to accept it. “That’s how things are.” said.
“In the first half we lacked speed in our game. The passes weren’t quick enough, we didn’t switch play to the other side as well as we should have. Furthermore, the position of the players in the first half was not good.
“We wanted to do better and that’s what got them back in the game. I think that in the second half we tried everything and in the end we have to accept the result.” he added.
Flick went on to speculate that Barcelona did enough to create chances and were just one goal away from victory.
“I think we created some opportunities. In the second half we had some chances and usually you can take advantage of them. And when you score the second goal here, I think you get the three points.
“But it was a bit disappointing because I think in the first half we scored the first goal and that was exactly what we wanted, but we gave them a chance to get back into the game.” said.
The German, however, accepted the result and stated: “I have to accept what happened today. “We try in every way.”
Flick was also asked about the key lessons the team can take away from today’s match and the subsequent result.
“For me, it’s more about quality, the quality of the passes and the speed of the passes. That’s something we can learn from because we have the quality to do it.
“There are eight or nine players there and it wasn’t easy to create chances, but we had them. “Usually that is enough to get the three points.” said.
Flick went on to discuss some key events that occurred during the game, including the racist chants against Alejandro Balde.
The German expressed his disappointment over the incident and condemned the act.
“There is no place for this in football or in life. It’s incredible. In the times we live in now, that is completely wrong. Those who do this should stay home, I think we should fight them, that’s the best.
“But also the people around them can do something because it is unfair. It is not the respect we want to live with, I think everyone can do something.” said.
However, Barcelona’s draw with Getafe could seriously affect their bid for the league title, especially now that Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid have the opportunity to widen the gap even further.
Hansi Flick, however, is not worried about the title race and believes it is not over yet.
“Winning the league is the most difficult. But this is not over yet, there are still some games to play. We will fight until the end. Today we got an extra point, but we lost two points. However, we have to look forward and do better next time.” he pointed out.
As mentioned above, Barcelona have won just one of their last eight league games, their worst run in 17 years.
However, Flick sees no reason to worry. Speaking about the way forward, the German expressed confidence in his team.
“I’m not worried. I am aware of the situation, I know that we have lost many points in the last games, that is not what we want and we can do much better. But in the end it seems that we have started the season very well in this new year and I am happy about that.
“But now we have to prove it. We have to show it in Lisbon because it is a very important game. Winning three points there means we will move on to the next round. That’s what we want, but we have to play much better.” he concluded.
