FC Porto established difficult terms for the transfer of the former Barcelona player with a 40% sales clause

The FC Porto has made it clear that they value Nico González a lot and are determined to retain control over as much as possible of their rights, giving Barcelona a possible financial coup.

Recent reports from Mundo Deportivo highlight the situation, revealing that the Portuguese club has no intention of selling the midfielder unless they are paid their release clause, which is established at 60 million euros.

There has been a growing interest of the best clubs, particularly in Manchester City, which according to reports are interested in signing Nico.

The player, who had previously been part of the youth configuration of Barcelona, still has a 40% sales clause attached to any future transfer.

This means that Barcelona can receive 40% of the profits that Porto obtains by selling Nico, above € 8.4 million that the Portuguese club initially invested in it.

How much can Barcelona win?

To break down this, Porto paid Barcelona € 8.4 million per Nico, and the Catalan Club is entitled to 40% of future sales profits.

For example, if Porto sold Nico for 60 million euros, they would need to share € 51.6 million with Barcelona, which means that Barcelona would receive 20.6 million euros.

In addition, Porto has the option of buying an additional 20% of the capital gains of the agreement, which potentially reduces the amount that Barcelona would receive.

What is that agreement?

According to an agreement signed in July 2023, Porto can acquire this 20% for 6 million euros, payable in the next two years, and if this happens, the participation of Barcelona would fall to 16.32 million euros instead of € 20.6 million .

The Porto position is still firm: they will not intercend offers for Nico unless they are offered their full launch clause or obtain total control over the rights of the player.

On the other hand, Barcelona also has the option to bring Nico back for 30 million euros, if they choose to activate this clause. However, Porto trusts that they can retain the player, at least for the moment.
