Devdutt Padikkal’s touching gesture for a young cricket fan in Australia

Indian cricketer Devdutt Padikkal recently melted hearts on social media with a heartwarming story about kindness. The 24-year-old told how he met a young Australian fan in a cricket shop and ended up surprising the boy by buying him new cricket equipment.

Padikkal, who is currently in Australia following India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign, shared the story on Instagram. He posted a photo with the boy and his mother, describing how the moment reminded him of his own childhood visits to cricket shops.

A special day at the Cricket store

On his Instagram story, Padikkal shared the details of the meeting.

“Today I saw this little boy in the cricket shop with his mom, all excitedly looking for a new bat and other equipment. It reminded me of my childhood and how special these days at the store used to be. He offered to give her whatever she wanted that day in hopes that it would make her day a little more special. Simple joys,” Padikkal wrote.

The gesture was met with praise from fans and fellow cricketers, who praised Padikkal for his kindness. Many highlighted the impact such moments can have on young cricket enthusiasts.

Padikkal’s Recent Performances

Padikkal participated in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in the absence of regular openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma. He scored 0 in the first inning and 25 in the second. India won that game by a huge margin of 295 runs.

Although Padikkal showed promise early on, he did not feature in the last four games of the series. Australia staged a strong comeback. They took the series 3-1 and secured their place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final alongside South Africa. For India, it was a disappointing result. They missed the WTC final for the first time in three seasons.

Padikkal’s international career began with a T20I series against Sri Lanka in 2021. He then scored 38 runs in two games. His Test debut came later in 2024 during a home series against England, where he distinguished himself by scoring an impressive half-century in his first match.
