In a hilarious and totally unexpected moment during the Big Bash League (BBL) match between Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes, David Warner managed to hit himself in the head with his own broken bat. Yes, you read that right. The bizarre incident had everyone, including the commentators, laughing during the Thunder’s fourth inning at Bellerive Oval on Friday.
The strange incident: the bat breaks, Warner is hit
It all happened when Warner, the Thunder captain, made an aggressive attack after a long delivery from Hurricanes pacer Riley Meredith. When he misjudged the shot midway, the bat came loose from the handle. The momentum of his blow sent the broken piece backwards, hitting Warner in the helmet.

The commentators couldn’t stop laughing and joked that Warner might need a concussion test after hitting himself. Fortunately, he was not injured and changed his bat before returning to work.
Warner’s Burning Blow
Despite the strange start, Warner was in no mood to slow down. The veteran opener scored an unbeaten 88 off 66 balls, guiding Sydney Thunder to a total of 164 for 6. His innings was packed with classic Warner knocks, and he held firm even as wickets fell around him.
Warner is currently the leading run-scorer in this BBL season, having amassed 316 runs in just seven innings. His form has been one of the Thunder’s few bright spots this season.
Sam Billings support, but others fight
Warner got a little help from Sam Billings, who scored 28 points. The duo added a crucial 34 runs after Thunder lost two quick wickets. But beyond that, the rest of the lineup failed to make any impact. Ollie Davies and Sam Konstas couldn’t stay long, leaving Warner to carry the load.
Chasing 165, the Hobart Hurricanes cruised to victory. Tim David stole the show with a crushing 68 off 38 balls, taking his team home with 19 balls to spare. The victory took the Hurricanes to the top of the BBL points table, while the Thunder were left scratching their heads.
