Barcelona’s January transfer market activity promises to be much more dynamic than expected, now that the club operates under the 1:1 financial rule.
As such, the chances of reinforcements arriving before the end of this month have increased significantly. While numerous players have offered themselves and others have been identified as future targets, one name has emerged as a priority: Marco Rashford.
Everything included for Rashford
In fact, according to SPORT, Barcelona have taken a decisive step in the race to sign the Manchester United striker, who seems likely to seek a change of scenery for the second half of the season.
Rashford was previously considered just one of many alternatives, but has now become a very real target with the Catalans ready to make a move. The proposed deal would see him join on loan until June 30.
While in Saudi Arabia, Barcelona sporting director Deco has been using his time to explore the viability of this complex but feasible operation.
The Portuguese manager has taken advantage of the team’s stay in the Middle East to hold informal meetings with player representatives, both from the current Barça squad and external targets.
Barcelona must first create some cap space to accommodate Rashford, but the club has multiple options and time to act before the January window closes.
Possible avenues include the departure of players such as Eric García, Ronald Araujo or Ansu Fati, as well as income from the possible transfer of former defender Óscar Mingueza, from which Barça would receive 50% of the proceeds.
Rashford has struggled to connect with new Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, leading him to seriously consider leaving Old Trafford in January.
The England international has barely been seen in United’s lineup over the last month and reportedly has multiple offers as he contemplates his future.
