Robert Lewandowski won his third title with FC Barcelona on Sunday night helping the blaugrana They defeated Real Madrid 5-2 in the final of the Spanish Super Cup.
Having previously lifted the League title and Super Cup during his debut season in 2022/23, the 36-year-old Pole, who scored Barça’s second goal that night, added another trophy to his haul.
Lewandowski speaks after the victory in the Super Cup
Speaking to the media after the match, Lewandowski could not hide his joy at winning his second Spanish Super Cup with the club and praised the team’s attitude against Real Madrid.
“Playing against Real Madrid is always an important match, especially in a final, but I think we had to play the same way we did in La Liga.” said.
Without losing sight of what is coming for the team, the veteran added: “We always want more and in three days we have the next game. This season is a great challenge for everyone and we have to prepare now for the next game.
“Today we can enjoy this, but tomorrow we have to focus on Betis (Wednesday in the Copa del Rey).”
Lewandowski was seen speaking to Joan Laporta after the match and revealed what the Barcelona president told him during the trophy celebration.
“He congratulated us for playing very well in the first half and said that we already have the first title of the year.” Lewandowski stated.
“We played very well in the first half. The last 30 minutes were more difficult because we had one less player, but with a score of 5-1 or 5-2 it was not going to escape us, not even after Szczesny was sent off.”
The Polish striker highlighted the team’s resurgence after a poor run in November and December, saying:
“If I think about the games we played, we did well until December. Then there was a time when we didn’t play well in the league. I think Christmas was a good time to reflect on what went wrong and what we could do better.
“We know that there are many games left until the end of the season, and today in the second half we showed that we can play with experience even with ten men.”
Regarding his penalty against Thibaut Courtois and not using the stutter step technique, Lewandowski said:
“I don’t know, I scored and that’s what matters. Lamine’s 1-1 draw was very important, but also the 3-1 goal. At that moment we thought we were going to win and we wanted to score more goals.”
