With the first week of the January transfer window already behind us, Barcelona have yet to register their summer signings, Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor.
This is because right now, the club expects a favorable result from the Higher Sports Council (CSD) this week.
But while registrations remain the absolute priority for Barcelona, the club is open to making some moves in the January transfer market now that they have returned to the 1:1 rule.
Two key attacking objectives for Barcelona
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have kept their eyes fixed on two attackers in particular: Liverpool’s Luis Díaz and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao.
Diaz, currently under contract with Liverpool until 2027, has been reluctant to renew his contract due to what he perceives as an inadequate offer from the Merseyside club.
His performances since arriving in January 2022 have been significant, making him a valuable asset, but his dissatisfaction could open a window for Barcelona.
With Liverpool leading both the Premier League and the Champions League, letting Diaz go seems unlikely unless Barcelona make a compelling offer.
However, his potential interest in moving to Barcelona could change the situation if the Catalan club acts decisively.
What about Leao?
On the other hand, Leao’s situation at AC Milan has become increasingly complex.
The Portuguese winger, known for his physical prowess and impressive statistics in goals and assists, has seen his relationship with Milan deteriorate, particularly with former coach Paulo Fonseca.
This discord has fueled speculation about his future. Last summer, Barcelona’s interest in Leao was thwarted by financial constraints and failure to comply with Financial Fair Play requirements.
However, with Jorge Mendes, Leao’s agent, maintaining a strong connection with Barca, there is lingering hope that a deal will materialize if Barcelona’s financial situation stabilises.
For now, however, Barcelona’s focus remains on the signings of Olmo and Víctor.
