Barcelona defender contemplating departure amid playtime concerns

Barcelona have been looking for ways to create cap space so they can place Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford before the winter window closes.

The initial idea was to separate from ANSU fati, but the The Masia Ace is reluctant to leave despite not being part of Hansi Flick’s plans.

Eric Garcia’s departure was considered but has since been ruled out despite the player attracting significant interest.

Andreas Christensen could be the solution

Now, however, Sports World reports that Barcelona could find a solution in the form of defender Andreas Christensen.

Indeed, the 28-year-old could emerge as the key to resolving Barcelona’s financial justice issues and allowing the club to strengthen its squad, potentially signing Rashford during this winter transfer window.

The Danish defender has barely played for Barça this season, having been sidelined for five months due to injury. He was medically cleared earlier this month but has yet to add to his lone appearance this season, which came on opening day against Valencia.

Currently, Christensen’s playing prospects seem slim. Ronald Araujo has stepped in to replace the injured Inigo Martínez and formed a defensive partnership with Pau Cubarsi.

Meanwhile, the midfield position is secured by the duo of Marc Casad and Pedri, furthermore, Frenkie de Jong has become an alternative, while Eric García also remains an option for manager Hansi Flick in defense and midfield positions.

As such, Christensen’s opportunities are limited. Given this situation, the 28-year-old is contemplating leaving Barcelona in search of more playing time.

With a contract that runs until June 2026, and after joining the club on a free transfer, the Blaugrana It could make a profitable deal for the defender, whose reputation in the Premier League remains strong after his time at Chelsea.
